Justice

Voice of the Kingfisher speaks out  …from a different perspective

Where do the faculties of law, within our Canadian universities, leave our justice system, if not ‘screwed’? According to REALity, a publication of REAL Women of Canada, Canadian universities have become sinister, dark institutions seething with bigotry, where only politically-correct opinions are tolerated.

Of all the university faculties, there is not one as intolerant as the Faculty of Law. Apparently, if, as a law student, you hold to pro-life/family values, you will have to keep your head down and your mouth shut, or you risk being targeted by the professors and bullied by ‘progressive’ classmates. Such a student runs the risk of failing to graduate if he remains loyal to his principles. What kind of a justice system will this produce in the future, if not one that is not based on justice at all?

Here is the bottom line; lawyers are not being educated in the fundamentals of law, but rather are being programmed to bring Canada into line with the agenda for a One World Order, driven by liberal ideology.

For example, human rights, which really mean special rights for certain politically-correct groups within society, are driving the curriculum being taught to the law students. At the University of British Columbia, Aboriginal Law is a mandatory course. One called Feminism and Law is mandatory at the University of Toronto. Environmental Law is another ‘biggie’ on the mandatory list, whereas the fundamentals of law, such as contracts and property law, or the principles of wills and trusts, are not being taught at all in some universities.

It reminds me of what a well-educated Doctor of Theology told me he had discovered while, as a minister of the United Church, he decided to do a study on what was being taught in the United Church colleges to students studying for the ministry. Apparently, in some schools, the Bible was not a required text book for Old Testament studies, if, indeed, they even offered such a course on the curriculum.

What does all of this have to say about the judicial Bench of the future, if we have no other choices than narrow, ideologically-driven, politically-correct, liberal lawyers being churned out by the legal system? Is it possible to again have justice based on biblical truth, as has been the history of the North American legal system in the past? There can be no real justice when men and their religions rule in place of God. That is why the East immigrated to the West, and not the West to the East.

There is no liberty in religious ideologies, and nothing could be more religious than secularism, the belief systems of men, rather than the truth of God. The secularist sees Human Secularism as being liberating. How come the same secularists still lock up murderers according to God’s Law, and His rules on sin? From where does the law come, which sees thieves incarcerated for their thievery, if not from the Ten Commandments of God? Are there still remnants of God’s justice being enforced, which the secularist simply cannot ignore for the good of society?

To the discredit of my old alma mater, William Flanagan, President of the Council of Law Deans (and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, in Kingston, ON), in a letter dated November 20th, 2012, wrote to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, complaining about Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. He accused them of having a ‘community covenant’ that is inconsistent with federal and provincial laws in that it discriminates against gay, lesbian and bi-sexual students. He also claimed the university is not fundamentally compatible with the core values of Canadian law schools and the ideology of an equal society.

Now, TWU requires that all of its students sign a ‘community covenant’ in which students agree to follow the evangelical Protestant tradition, which includes, among other things, observing modesty, purity and appropriate intimacy in all relationships, and that sexual intimacy be reserved for marriage between one man and one woman… No one is forced to attend this university, but I, for one, would love to find a lawyer for myself and a judge for the courts who have chosen to study law there.

Fortunately, the Federation of Law Societies did not agree with Mr. Flanagan, ignoring his titles and position. It responded that, the Federation’s jurisdiction is limited to determining whether law schools meet certain technical requirements, but its jurisdiction does not extend to admission policies, and rightly so.

Where are the freedoms and liberties, of our educational institutions, which safeguard them from being required to bend their principles to please special interest groups? Flanagan either misinterpreted or deliberately chose to ignore the freedom of conscience and religious protections included in the Charter of Rights (S.2). As can be expected of little men with big titles, Mr. Flanagan set off a round of complaints supported by the left wing Toronto Star, the homosexual newspaper Xtra, and other such outlets.

The Canadian people need to become more involved and more knowledgeable about what is going on in the universities of America into which Arabs are pouring their oil dollars in an attempt to revamp the American educational system. They intend to fill the minds of students with Muslim propaganda. We need to think carefully before supporting Alumni drives for dollars without requiring accountability on the part of the universities themselves.

This liberal, politically-correct bias of the Law Schools should give us deep concern regarding the future of the judiciary of this country. To require law students to comply with one, enforced ideology, denies the so-called ‘diversity’, which the liberals promote, but only in so far as it supports the liberal agendas. The schools are being governed under a form of totalitarianism for which there is no place in a truly democratic society.

May Trinity Western, and many more universities like it, have the sheer guts to continue with its required ‘community covenant’ in the hope we may be able to find lawyers in the future who will provide justice in this land of liberty by not bringing any ideologies of progressivism to the courts! Such ideologies will simply move Canada ever closer to the coming One World Order in which the laws will be dictated according to the prevailing religion. Then there will be no justice at all.
